Raja VIJAYENDRA SINGH, present Raja Sahib of Nalagarh since 5th May 1971. (Raj Mahal, Nalagarh – 174101, Himachal Pradesh, India), born 26th June 1946 in Dehra Dun, Uttar Pradesh (now Uttaranchal), succeeded to the throne on 5th May 1971, educated at the Woodstock School in Mussoorie, Uttaranchal and later at the Yadavendra Public School (Y.P.S.) in Patiala, Punjab. He finished his schooling from the Doon School at Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal in 1962 and then graduated from Hindu College, Delhi University, in 1966. Member of the Legislative Assembly in the State of Himachal Pradesh 1977/1999, Chief Parliamentary Secretary 1982/1983, Minister of State 1984/1985 and 1988/1989, married 7th April 1968 in Chandigarh, U.T., Raymon Singh [Rani Sukriti Kumari], born 1st September 1948 in Delhi, educated at Welham Girls’ High School in Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal, and graduated from Government Girls’ College, Chandigarh, daughter of Sardar Jaspal Singh of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar District, Punjab, and of Sardarni Mohinder Kaur, daughter of the late Sir and Lady Sobha Singh of New Delhi and Hadali, and has issue, one son and one daughter.

  • Tikka Jayatendra Singh, born 10th April 1969 at New Delhi, educated at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, District Solan, H.P. and later at the Doon School, Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal, and passed out from Bishop Cotton School, Simla, H.P., graduated from the Wesleyan College in North Carolina, U.S.A., managing The Fort, Nalagarh, as a heritage hotel since 1996, married 16th June 1992 at New Delhi, Miss Poonam Rathi, and has issue, a daughter.
    • Rajkumari Jahanvi Kumari, born 3rd February 1994, presently studying at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, District Solan, H.P.
  • Rajkumari Suhani Kumari, born 22nd December 1972, married 7th March 1996 at Nalagarh, Mr. Andaleeb Sehgal, son of Suman Sehgal, and has issue, two children.

Short History

Founded about 1100 by the Chandela Rajputs. The state ranked 5th in the Punjab Hill States Agency and 13th in the Punjab States Agency.

  • Raja AGAR SINGH, Raja of Nalagarh 1860/1876, born 1804, placed on the gaddi by the British Government in 1860, Wazir of Nalagarh; married (a), daughter of a Mian of Jaswan, married (b), daughter of a Chandel Mian of Bilaspur, and had issue. He died in December 1876.

  • Raja ISHRI SINGH, Raja of Nalagarh 1876/1911, born 1832, succeeded 16th December 1876, married Ranis from Guler, Kangra and Kuthar, but had no children. He died sp on 18th September 1911 and was succeeded by his younger brother.
  • Raja JOGENDRA SINGH, Raja of Nalagarh 1911/1946, born 1877, educated at Aitchison Chiefs’ College, Lahore; married Kumari Prathiba Kumari [?Rani Parikshita Kumari / Rani Prathiba Kumari of Nalagarh], daughter of Thakur Raghunath Chand of Mahilog, District Solan, H.P., and had issue, four children. He died 1946.

HH Farzand-i-Khas-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia Mansur-i-Zaman Amir-ul-Umra Maharaja Dhiraj Rajeshwar Sir Sri Maharaja-i-Rajgan Bhupendra Singh Mahendra Bahadur of Patiala, and had issue. He died 5th May 1971.
