Short History

The Netawal branch of the Ranawat sub-clan of the Sisodia race is a junior branch of the Bagore family, descended from Maharaj Surat Singh, the second son of Maharaj Nath Singh of Bagore, who, in turn, was the son of Maharana Sangram Singh II of Udaipur.

Maharaj Shri Nath Singh, 1^st Thikanedar of Bagore, born 1715, married and had issue. He was assassinated in 1764 under orders, it is said, of Maharana Ari Singh II by Lal Singh Chundawat, who was later granted Bhainsrorgarh with the title of Rawat, the son of Rawat Kesri Singh of Salumber, by stabbing a dagger into his neck.

  - Run Singh, married at Duni, in Jaipur, with the daughter of Rao Prem Singh and granddaughter of Rao Shambhu Singh of Duni, the head of the Gogawat sub-clan of the Kachwaha family, and had issues, a son, and a daughter. He died in 1792.

Maharaj Shri SURAT SINGH, 1^st Maharaj of Netawal, in Bhai Bhag (Brother’s share) from Bagore received Soniyana, Nilod, Bidag, Papronda etc. of an annual Rekh (estimation) about Rs. 4,500. He had married four times, but unfortunately, no direct male issue survived after him; hence, Rup Singh, the grandson of his brother Zalim Singh, succeeded him.

      - Maharaj UDAI SINGH JI NETAWAL, married firstly SHAKUNTALA KUMARI of JHALON KI MADAR, MEWAR and secondly to KHAMORE, Mewar. He has 4 issues, one son and daughter from each of the marriages. He passed away in 2016.

Maharaj Shri SAMDAR SINGH, 4^th Maharaj of Netawal, married in Samvat 1930 (A.D. 1863) to the daughter of Maharaj Mangal Singh, the real brother of the late His Highness Maharaja Prithvi Singh of Kishangarh and had issue. He died on the 4^th of Magh Sudh Samvat 1958 [A.D. 1901].

Maharaj Shri BHOPAL SINGH, 5^th Maharaj of Netawal, married 1^stly in 1890, a daughter of Rao Nirbhay Singh of Tonk in Gwalior State; married 2^ndly in 1896, a daughter of Maharaj Bhim Singh [and sister of Ram Kishan Singh] in Bikaner who belonged to the blood royal of the Bikaner family, being descendants of Maharaja Gaj Singh of Bikaner; married 3^rdly, youngest sister of his 2^nd wife; married 4^thly, the daughter of Gaj Singh and the sister of Rawal Deep Singh of Ghadiyala in Bikaner; and had issue. He died of cholera at the age of 43 in 1915.
