Short History

Narsinghpur State is alleged to have been founded by one Dharma Singh around the year 1292 A.D. The State is said to have originally been in the possession of two Khonds, Narsingha and Para, from whom the name of this tract of country was derived. The area of the State has, from time to time, been curtailed by portions taken by the Chiefs of Hindol, Badamba, and Daspalla. The rulers of this State have long enjoyed the title of Raja, and the title ‘Mansingh Harichandan Mahapatra’ was obtained from the Maharaja of Puri. They were formally recognized by the British Government in 1874.
